Hy,
Really have a strange problem i have a set of category folders, where there are multiple subcategory, for some reason the latest category, doesn't wanne show on subcategory, and when i make a new one, all the subcategory or gone for that category.
Is there a limit on how many subcategory you can make ?
In the attached zip there are two pictures
First without the 9the sub here, second with the 9th and all subcategory from the first picture are gone.
Can you help ?
Hi
First there is no limit to the number of categories or sub categories or sus-sub cats and so on.
Categories and subcategories are like directories in a file system.
In your first pic it shows the 8 subcats of Rhb-Sbb and also says there are 8 subcats but in the subcat navigation bar it shows 'next' so there does seem to be a 'dilemma' :(
You are using the Multi-Column Subcategories Layout. Have you just upgraded to jD3.9? If so please switch to the 3.9 version of the layout. Also which version of jD.
If that shows the same problem the please select the Standard Subcategories Layout to see if that shows the ninth category. And advise on result please.
Could you also check that the 'missing' subcat has the appropriate view Access
Colin
Like i showed in the puctures, if i publish the 9 sub, all the rest vanishes, including navigation, and the next bitton is not working.
I use theclatest 3.9, al of the other category are showing subs fine, have two of 11, it is only the last one that gives trouble.
The only different thing is the name of the 3th cat it has - could that be wath causes the problem ?
Look here:
https://cmkks.eu/joomla/index.php/downloads/category/116-switzerland
I tried to make a new category and that shows, i created some subs but they are marked as being there but not shown, if yo use the dropdown box they are there, but not shown in page.
Tried every layout, but most of them are failing to show anything.
I can let you paly a round on a backup site if you want to.
I have the same problem - only when I unpublish the nth category, will the others display in the category view.
@nicolaas1
I have sent you a Private Message
Colin
Colin sended you back,
Same problem here created another site and started from scratch,
https://cmkks.eu/joomla3/administrator/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&view=categories
I see only on sub and the rest well it's out there i cyberspace.
Hi Nicolaas,
I will also try to check this problem tomorrow.
Would it be possible to get a full akeeba backup to test it locally with a debugger?
The downloadable files are not required for this.
When yes send it also to Colin via PM please.
@nicolaas1
I updated my test site to 3.9.2Then found that using layout Standard Subcategories Layout was causing the problem. So please try with either of the 3.9 subcategories one as that solved it for me.
Colin
Is there something wrong with posting, don't see my messages in the list ?
Look at cmkks.biz, to see what i mean, did not use the standard, you had problem with, if i use another layout, the it could be i see nothing.
Hope you get this, as i don't see my answers,
At the moment track is active and rhb sbb subs all gone, if i make new onse same story, or they don't show up.
Think there is something wrong, this sofwrae should not have been taken out of beta.
I love the fact you can save htm tags now.
Edit by ColinM:deleted link info for seurity
Is there a way to save the <p> and </p> tags with 3.2, if so tell me how and i will use that version.
I think it finally works, could it be that the system was falling over / in the name ? I saw under ftp, the dir was not created fully.
Can this problem occur when i renumber the subcategories, because that was what i have done under the old system.
I installed the old jdownloads 3.2.68 and it updated direct to the latest version from 3.9 i used the standard categories form 3.2.
For Belgium is everything going well now. So now making the whole structure again to see if that fixes it.
The problem with the .eu en .biz site is they never had 3.2.68 installed, can that also be part of the problem ?
I will see what it does and keep you informed.
Let me know
Collin,
I think i found it, when i select to sort Titel alpabethic all subs are gone, cant recover from it, by setting it back, something to doe with sorting ?
I will sent you everything from my new test site tomorrow evening.
Nicolaas
You wrote in your first message yesterday
QuoteThe problem with the .eu en .biz site is they never had 3.2.68 installed, can that also be part of the problem ?
Yes that is part of the problem - it actually needed to be at 3.2.69
What I do find strange is the upgrade install checks the version and advises against continuing - maybe we should relook at the code in that region.
There also seems to be a problem if the database is a little corrupt then the update does not complete properly. Before changing the database jD makes backup copies of the the original tables. There should be eight such tables relating to the former 3.2 version. Could you check please
The database tables have names like <Your-prefix>_jdownloads_config_backup_3_2_69
where the last part is the previous jD version. We will be publishing a tutorial on the steps required to get back to the 3.2 version.Colin
Thanx
You can have a look at what happend to me, i created them all could see them, and then i changed the sorting to alphabetical titel, andesuddenly no subcats or only one.
The categories are there because the dropbox shows them,
xxx
Even if i place it back to default applicaion they don't come back, or is the sort order the first thing you need to set ?
Before creatingnanything ?
Hope this is not going to happen with files to.
I can tell you that it is a proper database.

Unless colin already changed the installer.
So i'm going to do a reinstall on another install, but i always loosing my subcategories if i say sort to alphabetic titel.
Or do you need to set that on before creating catergories. Colin is looking at this: i gave him access to the site.
Collin,
Installed the last version but no fix for me.
Think i will go take a look at the old version, or another download system.
You should have stayed with the 3.2 series an developpe these, and not trying to integrate things, or you should have tested a lot longer, and kept it in beta.
Can you please try to make this work like it should.
Sorry.
Hi nikolaas,
I understand your displeasure.
But please note that we have over two years worked on this new release. We had 6 public beta releases which could test interested users over more as 11 months! jDownloads is an Open Source product and is dependent on the support and feedback of the users. But we have never get posted a problem like yours (or a problem from some other users in the last days). Never! So we are very surprised and disappointed.
I have now decided to stop all updates to the new version for the time being. This is valid until we could finally solve all new problems reported here and a corresponding new version is available. However, this may take some time. There are far fewer problems with new installations and the errors reported so far will be corrected in the short term.
Colin works on a short manual to give users instructions how it is possible to go back to the old version 3.2.x. I think it should be published tomorrow.
Sorry.
Ok. Do you still need my test site ? Else i delete it.
