Dear jDownloads Team,

I recently updated the jDownloads component on my Joomla website (running Joomla version 5.2.6) using the built-in update system. Before the update, I was using jDownloads version 4.0.46. After updating (presumably to version 4.0.47), I noticed that the "jDownloads" menu item under the Components section in the Joomla administrator panel has disappeared. However, the component still functions correctly on the frontend of the site.

To try and resolve the issue, I intended to reinstall the latest version manually. However, I noticed that the latest available version on your website is still 4.0.46, and I could not find version 4.0.47 available for direct download.

Could you please provide the installation package for version 4.0.47 or let me know how I can restore the missing admin menu item? I'd also appreciate knowing if this is a known issue in the latest release.

Thank you for your support and for your continued work on this excellent extension.

Best regards,

Abdullah TAT

Note: I noticed there was a similar topic posted earlier, but I wasn't able to reply under that thread, so I had to open a new one.

Thankyou for your input.  Sorry you are having 'challenges'.
I anticipate that Arno will add 4.0.7 to the regular downloads section in
https://www.jdownloads.com/index.php/downloads/download/6-jdownloads/70-jdownloads-4.html
presently this references 4.0.46
You can always find what version of jD by going to jDownloads, select Control Panel and scroll down to the foot of the page.

I am a bit cunfused about
"I noticed that the "jDownloads" menu item under the Components section in the Joomla administrator panel has disappeared"
Did you mean in System- Manage section- Extensions that if you searched for jDown nothing was found?

Also when the system updated you to 4.0.7 did it make an Akeeba backup? Please let us know
Best wishes
Colin

Dear Colin,

Thank you for your quick response and support.

Regarding your question — no, I wasn't referring to the System > Manage > Extensions section. What I meant is that the "jDownloads" menu entry is missing from the Components dropdown menu in the Joomla administrator backend. As shown in the screenshot I've attached, jDownloads is no longer listed there, which makes it impossible for me to access the jDownloads control panel.

However, the component is still active and working correctly on the frontend. I've experienced this issue once before, and at that time, reinstalling the latest version of jDownloads resolved the problem. I attempted the same solution now, but since the installed version is 4.0.47, trying to install version 4.0.46 results in a warning that a newer version is already installed.

I do have a backup of my site, but I would prefer to avoid restoring it unless absolutely necessary and would like to resolve the issue through a manual reinstallation of version 4.0.47 if possible.

Thank you again for your assistance and support.

Best regards,
Abdullah

For all the front end jD menu items to disappear is, as you say, very strange

I assume that if you look at Main Menu tab in backend it lists the various menu items, including jD onea you have set

Could you please check that these menus are allowed to show by clicking on one of the jd menu items, then in the tab 'Link Type', scroll down and check that options 'Display Menu Item Title' and 'Display in Menu' are both set to Yes.
Also check that in the list of menu items that Access is set to Public

Dear Colin,

Thank you once again for your detailed response and suggestions.

Just to clarify — the issue is not with the frontend menu items. All the jDownloads-related menu links on the frontend are visible and working correctly.

The problem is specifically in the backend administrator interface. Under the Components menu, the "jDownloads" entry is missing entirely. Therefore, I'm unable to access the jDownloads Control Panel or any of its settings from the backend.

I checked the Menus > Main Menu section as you suggested, and all jDownloads menu items are present and configured correctly. The options "Show Menu Item Title" and "Display in Menu" are both set to "Yes", and the access level is set to "Public" (General). But again, this only applies to the frontend menus — the missing item is in the backend Components menu, not the site navigation.

It seems that the admin menu registration might have been affected during the update to version 4.0.47. If there's a way to manually re-register the admin menu or reapply the update package, I'd be happy to try that.

Thank you once again for your support and guidance.

Best regards,
Abdullah

Dear Colin,

Thank you again for your assistance.

I wanted to share that I was able to resolve the issue.

From the Joomla administrator panel, I navigated to System > Update Sites and located the update URL for jDownloads, which is:

http://www.jdownloads.com/updates/4.0/final/jdownloads-update.xml

By opening this URL in a browser and checking its source code, I found the direct download link for the latest version (4.0.47):

http://www.jdownloads.com/updates/files/com_jdownloads_4_0_47_stable.zip

I downloaded the package from that link and installed it manually via the Joomla extension installer. After the installation, the missing jDownloads menu under the Components section in the backend reappeared, and everything is now working correctly.

Hopefully, this method might help others facing a similar issue until version 4.0.47 is officially published on the jDownloads download page.

Thank you again for your support and for maintaining such a great extension.

Best regards,
Abdullah
