News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

I despair, please help me :D

Joomla Version: 3.3.6
JDownloads Verion: 3.2.39

I created some directories in the "jdownloads" directory. Here I publish every day new Excel Files for customers. For example a directory with 13 .xls-files. When I override the files with the new ones in FTP, most files appear duoble in the Download-Section.

Joomla Cache ist disabled, automatic publich is enabled.

I am trying to sove this since days, but without success...isn't it possible to override existing download-files?
I also tried to delet the directory and move the new verion to the server, but with the same result. I alsways receive serveral times the same file in Downloads...

best regards

Sandra,
It all depends on how you replace the files!  First ensure you have Automatic Monitoring turned off when you upload the files.

I understand you are replacing files using ftp.  The file name must be identical as otherwise jD will not see it.

If you just upload them to a Category (directory) and auto Monitoring is on the jD will create a new Download. That will then show as 2 entries, and if the file name is identical then both entries will be the same.

You can overwrite a file in a Download from the front end by first deleting it when using Create a Download form and then uploading the new file in the form.  You could also set the 'modified' field.

Another thought is to change each filename with a version id before uploading and then use the monitoring manually but make the default sort order for your views as sort by date.  All the new versions will then appear first.

Hopefully there will soon be some extra jD tools that will refresh a Downloads date and time.

Maybe Arno could make the auto monitor do a simple file replacement if a file with the same name in the category already exists.

@Colin,
I am not sure that you have described the work from the auto monitoring to hundred percent correct.
You can easy update a file from a Download via FTP:
- But you must use exactly the same file name so that you overwrite the older version (and copy not an additional file)
- when the file name is identical should be all okay (and auto monitoring will not create a second Download)
- when the filen name is different will the auto monitoring create a new Download for this file (what is correct in in this case)

@Arno
Yes, not my best explanation! I meant to say overwriting with identical name is ok
