Dear All,

I have a strange permission issue: I've created several categories containing downloadable files. When  I grant 1 user access to 1 of those categories, everything is fine, so downloads from this category are possible. But when I grant 1 user access to 2 or more categories, all download buttons disappear, and a permission notice appears like "you don't have permission to download this file". So in general a download is not possible if access is granted to 2 or more categories at the same time.
Does anyone has an idea where to check? I went the whole configuration up and down and couldn't find the problem yet. Best Regards, Nicolas

Hi
Yes thatdoes sound strange. First when you say 'user' do you mean user groups?
Also have you looked at the documentation? There are several articles on permissions.

Have you used 'deny' in any permission as that is generally wrong.

Hi Colin,

thanks for your quick reply. I created several user groups that have access to specific downloadable ressources (in categories). The goal is that I want to put a user in a user group so that the user can then download all files he gains access by this user group. While the user is only in 1 user group everything is fine. The problem only appears when 1 user is member of 2 user groups or more. Please find attached a screenshot of the rights I set for those categories. If you need more information please let me know - I really appreciate your help.

Hi
You seem to be on the right track.
Issues with the Joomla! permissions can be challenging!  Remember that if you put a user in a User Group (UG) then that user is also an implicit member oof the parent UG, the grandfather UG and so on.

What have you set the View Access as that will also have an effect if a user cannot view something even if they have Download Permission.
Have you tried seeing the permissions with the debugging tools? Following article might help
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/show-permissions-graphically-an-overview

If all else fails then PM me super user login details and I will look.

Hi Colin,

thanks for the quick reply. Interesting thing this graphical permission overview but this looks fine so far. I'll send you the Login Credentials by PM and will post the solution when we found it :-)
Another hint: as far as I know the problem appears since the last update on december 15. before the update everything worked fine.

Hi
Having looked at your site the problem is now solved.  Basically it was through the use of setting some Permissions to Deny.  Removing those cured the problems.

Basically if you ever find the need to use Deny then it is likely that you have the setup wrong!!

It was not a jD problem.
