Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hi, running 3.2.44 and after uploading a ZIP file we noticed that only this file becomes unpublished after logging into the admin backend and is no longer available in the download Category frontend. There are no limits on this file and it resides in a Private Category. What would be causing this?

Hi
When you say it becomes unpublished do mean that is no longer visible in the front end or that in the backend in Downloads the Status column shows it as unpublished, that is as a red circle like icon instead of a green tick? What is the file protection status of the file - it should be 644 and the containing directories should be 755.

Also what do you mean by a Private Category?  If you have set 'Use a Private Files Area'  in User Groups Settings to Yes  then please note that feature is not yet operational.

Did you actually access the Download in the Backend?  And then did you do a Save?

Have you set a View Access Level for the Download?

Do the categories and sub categories on the path to the Download have 'Download' Permission for the relevant User Group.

Have you set Deny permission somewhere?

So could be many things Please could you explain a bit more detail.

Thanks

Colin

Hi Colin,

correct, it is no longer visible in the front end and also shows with a red X unpublished in the back end. File permissions are set at 644 and the directory is 755. There are 2 other files in this directory and Category which do not seem to behave this way.

We have not used the set "Use a Private Files Area".

View access is set to Special. Download permission for group is assigned to relevant user.

The 2 other things to mention are that the file was automatically added by uploading via cPanel as the file size is 41MB.  The second thing is that this file has a password assigned to it.

The log states Monday, 13 June 2016 11:54:
Download not found Private/UCSClient 40Br.zip but the file is there and when selecting publish again the file is downloadable again but changes to unpublished once we log into the back end.

Thanks,

Hi, we have deleted the file via cPanel and have now uploaded the same file and all seems to be fine when logging into the back end.  The file is staying published.

Thanks,

Hi
Glad the problem has resolved itself.  It would seem from what you described that the file was not fully 'set' in the database.
Do you have Download monitoring set to Yes?  It may be that your server ran out of time - but I would not expect that on a single file and also the file size makes little or no difference to the database activity. So somehow I guess the file was not properly uploaded by cPanel, well maybe!

As a thought do you have a Cron job as well as an active automonitoring? Probably not but ...

You can sett your upload limits much higher by changing php parameters upload_max_filesize and post_max_size (make post_max_size say 2Mb bigger than upload_max_filesize normally by using a php.ini file but ask your hosting service for advice.

Hi Colin,

Yes we have set the upload_max_filesize to 60M  our WHM server but have noticed that our  post_max_size was only set to 8M. Yes we do run crons in the middle of the night. I would agree that it must be related to the database flag not being set or possibly the post_max_size limit of only 8M. The file itself could be downloaded directly from cPanel but not from jDownloads as this is why we deleted and uploaded again via cPanel and all is good.

We have now changed our WHM server post_max_size to 60M.

Thank you for your help,
