Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

I'm having an issue with PDFs.  I want the user to download them, not view them in the browser.  I've followed the directions seen in other forum posts, but it's not working.  Meaning I set "Which file types are to be opened in the Browser?" to not include pdf, to no avail. (I tried leaving the field blank and also only containing html, to the same effect).  Is there some other setting that could be causing this?
  Thanks.

Hi,
The settings you have used are ok but it may be your browser that is openig the pdf as a preview. See pic for an example with Firefox.Jd cannot control the users browser.

My Firefox browser was set to "Always ask" and I also tried setting in to "Save File", but I still have the same problem.  On my old Joomla site (that I'm moving away from) that uses Joomla 1.5 and Remository, the PDFs are saved instead of opened.  I believe there is some problem in jDownloads that I'm not seeing.

Hi
I had assumed from your first post that config - Downloads tab -"Which file types are to be opened in the Browser?" the list did not include ,pdf and that you have not got a ,, sequence so it looks, for example, like
html,htm,txt,doc,jpg,jpeg,png,gif
Firefox needs to be set as indicated in attached pic. I personally like to select where to download. To be totally 'free' of requests set to use the 'Save files to' option and the default handling of pdf tyes to Save File
Just tried all of above and pdf files download directly.

Those are the settings I have.  I found the problem.  Apparently when "Send Downloads using the PHP Script?" is set to No, PDFs always open in the browser for me.  I don't know why, but setting it to Yes is fine.  I'll test my other downloads with this setting and stick with it if they all work correctly.
Thanks.
