News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hi:
I'm following the guide: http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/controlled-access-to-categories-and-downloads
I'm trying to use a schema like in section: An extensive multi department arrangement where each department has multiple sections

The idea is that each of my members are part of the group registered users but also they have a specific group for them in the Joomla Users configuration.
So i have:
- Registered users
-- User1
-- User2

User1 is the group of the "User1" and User2 is the group of the "User2"

The idea is each user to have a private area where only he can see the files.

The problem is that when i try to create categores or all users can download or nobody but i'm unable to set the permissions right so only the group User1 has access to a category and User2 has access to another category different :S

Can someone please try to help me a bit with this.

Best regards.

Hi
I would be pleased to assist.   I understand that User1 User Group (UG1) are the only ones allowed to see the existence of Downloads in a Category called say 'Cat-user1'. Similarly for UG2 with 'Cat-user2'.  Cat-user1 and Cat-user2 should be top level categories. You will also need to create an Access Level called say AL-user1 with member UG1, Al-user2 with member UG2, and so on.

Are there common downloads that every one can see and download? If so we will need to modify the scheme a bit but for the moment I have assumed there are no Downloads available to every registered user.

First of all ensure all jDownloads component permissions, accessible through the Options button on the jD Control Panel, are set to Inherited.  At this juncture if no permissions have been set on any of the categories the only the Super User will be able to download.  Also make sure you have not set a 'Deny'  permission anywhere.

Category 'Cat-user1' should grant permission to UG1 for Download, and set all other user groups to have Inherited for Download.  Set the Access Level for Cat-user1 to AL-user1.  Only those user groups who are in Access level AL-user1 will be able to see
Category 'Cat-user2' should grant permission to UG2 for Download, and set all other user groups to have Inherited for Download.  Set the Access Level for Cat-user2 to AL-user2.

Now if you have a menu item Show All Downloads, or Show all Categories, then only the downloads in Cat-user1 and its sub categories will show on the PC at which User1 is logged in.  Similarly only Downloads in Cat--user2 will show on PC where User2 is logged in

If you are still having trouble then PM me login at Super  admin I will set up a couple of sets for you.
