News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hello there, first post! Love the system so far but have a quick question. I am trying to configure the user group settings to limit the fields displayed when creating a download. When I set the fields they are not displaying correctly on the website even after clearing Joomla and browser cache. Am I doing something wrong? Help :(

Hi
Because jD has so much flexibility and many options it is a bit challenging to get it right first time!
Have you read the bit about User Groups Settings?
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/introduction-to-user-group-settings?category_id=30
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/which-user-group-is-used?category_id=30

I suspect you have not set the User Groups Settings Ranking value for the user group you have permitted to upload.  First if this value, which is the second field on the main User Groups Settings form, is zero then jD ignores those settings.  So it needs to be nonzero to become a 'candidate'.  The other challenge that is often not known is that within Joomla! every user, except public, belongs to more than one User Group.  This is because in Joomla! a user belongs to their directly assignd User Groups and to the parents and grand parents and so on.  jD needs the ranking value to determine which set of User Groups Settings are the most important.

It is likely that the 'uploaders' group you created has a parent of Registered, whose parent in turn is Public.
If you have not set the Ranking value of your uploader group higher than that of the Registered UG then the settings for the Registered group will apply.

So set your uploader UG to have a ranking value of say 123 in the User Group Settings for the 'uploader' UG.

Please let us know if that solves things, if it does not then we will look further.
