I have a need to provide a simple download link in the frontend. I just need a simple HTML link, but no matter what layout I select in the backend, the frontend always displays the same default layout.

Hi
In the jD Config - Plugins tab you can specify which layout is used for the content plugin. You can also use the content plugin in an article to override the default in Config- Plugins for example
{jd_file onlinelayout==Files link and icon v3.2}
If you just want a simple link then select the layout 'Files link only v3.2' as that is specificaly for use as a simple link.
Please see article
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/using-the-content-plugin-in-articles-and-modules
especially about using
rather than
.
Also article http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/overview-and-installation-notes-for-jdownloads-plugins
gives some basic info in a more compact form.

Hi Colin, I have seen that you respond quickly and frequently to all questions, sensible and stupid. Thank you for this.

My problem was twofold. Something went wrong with the initial install of the extension. The title of the download was not automatically a hyperlink, and secondly, i was not aware of the plugin config within the extension.

I reinstalled the extension and set the layout under the plugin config, and all is now well.

Thank you again for prompt and thorough responses.
