News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

moved from a server I was running apache on to a new server running NGINX (not that I would think that would be the issue)

So what happens?
I click on the Download button to download a file and I get this error message
QuoteNotice
Unauthorized access to downloads.
Error! Either you tried to start a download from an unauthorised resource or your browser did not send a referrer.

I verified categories have Public access to Download.

Joomla version: 3.6.5

Note: via the backend I can click on the file and it downloads so the file is there and accessbile but just not able to download it via the frontend download button.  I tried as guest first then I logged in a Super User/Admin and can not download from the frontend.

Server is in a intranet (not accessible from outside)

Any suggestions for me to try I'd be happy to.  I reset/cleared permissions using the Tool in jdownloads with no change.

Hi
This does not sound like a jD problem but communication between the browser and and the web server,  NGINX.
What version of php is being used?
