Are you using the Vertical Search Layouit or The Horizontal one, which has a more compact header?
Changing the search  view is not easy as it is not a real 'layout' and the structure is embedded in the code!ColinMPS maybe in jD 3.9

I don't see much difference between the listings...
The search isn't a big issue, but it wastes a lot of screen space (I always hate 'bloated' screens with lots of empty space and little information...  )

You can change it self by use the override function.
We do nothing change here currently.
