Hi,
I am new to JDownloads, Firstly a big thank you for a great product.
I can see you can restrict the file and image types that can be uploaded.
My question is, can they be restricted by Category?
We want to set a number of categories, Reports, Documents and images etc.
We would like to restrict that only certain file types can be uploaded to a category, so something like
Reports -pdf files
Documents - doc files
Images - gif,png, svg
I can't see anywhere in the documentation where you could do this, so is it possible or not?
Kind regards
David

Hi
What I think you are asking is that in the front end if one uploads a pdf file say, then it is automatically added to a predefined category which is probably called something like 'pdf files'.  Basically not readily possible presently.

However in the front end you can restrict the file types that may be uploader in the Group Creation/Editing Setting tab of a User Group (Allowed file tpes Option).

Additionally there is a 'May select a different Category' setting which if set to No does not allow changing the category.
So assuming the relevant categories are set up in the backend then having a user group per type (Remember to set ranking level) the user needs to be viewing the relevant category.

Hmm possible but cumbersome!!
I will check out

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the speedy reply.
Don't worry too much, it is not a big problem or critical for us.
We can just put some notes in each category what type of files should be uploaded into that category.
Kind regards

Hi,
QuoteWe would like to restrict that only certain file types can be uploaded to a category, so something like

Could be a nice feature.

But to define this for each category individually and additionally the possibility to define this for each user group could be too much for some administrators and users.
This could also increase support requests unnecessarily. Therefore, I do not want to add this at the moment.  ;)
Best Regards / Gruß
