Hi
Could you temporarily turn off Option 'Activate Hotlinking Protection' in the Options  Security Settings tab, please advise if that makes any difference to the error reports.  I have assumed you are trying to use an image or similar from another website or  your site is being 'linked to' .  Have always found this a bit confusing!!!

It may be you are linking to an image or similar on another site using a link starting with http:// not https://
or you have not added them to the 'Websites allowed to Hotlink'

Hi Colin

We have no external links to other sites for downloads. The site is new and presently has only 18 downloads that we have uploaded ourselves.

AFAIK we have no links at all to external images.

Test:

1. Deleted contents of Error Log.

2. Deactivated Option 'Activate Hotlinking Protection' in the Options  Security Settings tab at 15:51 local time.

3. Went to front end downloads section and clicked download links for 3 different files on our server.

4. Error log recorded following three warnings:

[10-Nov-2023 15:51:07 UTC] PHP Warning:  Undefined variable $user_random_id in /home/mysite/public_html/components/com_jdownloads/src/Helper/JDHelper.php on line 3866
[10-Nov-2023 15:51:47 UTC] PHP Warning:  Undefined variable $user_random_id in /home/mysite/public_html/components/com_jdownloads/src/Helper/JDHelper.php on line 3866
[10-Nov-2023 15:51:57 UTC] PHP Warning:  Undefined variable $user_random_id in /home/mysite/public_html/components/com_jdownloads/src/Helper/JDHelper.php on line 3866

Hi
It seems we got rid of the bottom two errors in the original list.  Just to persue those original links, do any of your downloads have web links in them to an external site or maybe to elsewhere internally? Could be in description or similar.  It is still a fault as you should be able to safely set option Activate Hotlinking Protection to Yes.

Appears you have an error each time you click on a Download button or title.
Could you please check that the option 'Upload Directory Path'  in Options - 'Path Settings' tab is something like:
/home/xxxxxx/public_html/jdownloads where the xxxxxx is the name of you site.

I will send you a Personal Message

Hi Colin

I'm not aware of our downloads having internal/external links. They are simply a bunch of PDF documents with information.

I can confirm that the option 'Upload Directory Path'  in Options - 'Path Settings' tab is specifically:

/home/mysite/public_html/jdownloads
