News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hi -

I'm wondering if there's a way to see access rights so that a member of a certain JDownloads Group can be the only one not only to access a category but to view it too.

From what I can see you can make a category view only or give it access rights to all special or registered users, or you can make it readable by downloads group. I want to be able to
have people log in from various groups but to not even see the categories they don't have rights for - I want to hide them.

Is there any way to achieve this?

Thanks!

Hi
I also cannot see a way of achieving what you suggest.  But I think it is a good idea as it is better to not let someone see something rather than the dreaded message like "you do not have permission....".  Maybe one way would to recognise that all the Joomla access rights for the Category or Download are 'not allowed', and in that case the item would not be shown.  Such a solution might be simpler to implement rather than to have viewing rights established.  This would also avoid having to chain through effectively disabling each 'level'.   It would also need to be reflected in the code that counts the number of download files available.

Think this should be put into suggestions to be done when code is pretty stable.

@Colin:
I think that dilby has posted his question in a wrong category then it seems for me that he talks about an older version.

@dilby:
You have not posted any informations about your version (Joomla, jD and so on).
But i think you mean a older version, as in the version 3.2 exist not more 'jDownloads groups'. Only the Joomla user groups.
