Upgrade from Joomla 2.5.24  to 3.3
Upgraded jdownloads, per instructions on Tutorial Center, from version 1.9.2.10 to 3.2.9.

Problem is that for many of my files, when I clicks on the file name ?OpenSearch? the link is not valid and gives a 404.   The interesting thing is that about 20% of the file links work.

Hi
Need a bit more info to assist.
Noted you are using local host site so I guess you are preparing to switch to Joomla 3.3 on your production site.  I am about to do the same with my web sites but have not done it yet!

What version of jDownloads were you using when you were using Joomla 2.5.24 ?

Was everything OK with 1.9.2.10 on Joomla 3.3?

If you were using jDownloads 1.9.1.5 on Joomla 2.5.24 then I suggest you update to jDownloads 2.5.11 beta, following the update instructions and see all works.

As yet I have not tested any scheme for going from Joomla 2.5.24 to Joomla 3.3 but obviously one is needed.  Will first discuss with Arno to check out as there are various possibilities.

Colin,

I have a copy of my production site on my development system.  I started with Joomla 2.5 and was using jdownloads 1.9.1.5.  Per the migration instructions, I upgraded the 1.9.1.5 to version 1.9.2.10 beta.  I then did the joomla 2.5  upgrade to 3.3, uninstalled 1.9.2.10 and installed 3.2.9.

> Was everything OK with 1.9.2.10 on Joomla 3.3?   Never looked. I assumed that 1.0.2.10 would not work on 3.3.  Should I repeat my steps and test that?
> If you were using jDownloads 1.9.1.5 on Joomla 2.5.24 then I suggest you update to jDownloads 2.5.11 beta.  ?? did not know that a 11. beta was available. :-(

I was looking through the database record to see if there was some consistent thing that was missing.  It looks like all the records are there, its just that some product a 404 while others do not.

Thanks
Rob

Perhaps I am getting messed up with versions.    So, lets start with the base.  My production side is running Joomla 2.5.24.  Its my understanding that the latest stable version of jdownloads for 2.5 is 1.9.1.5 -- is this correct?
Given the above,  what version should I be using prior to the Joomla 3.3 upgrade, 1.9.2.10 beta or 2.5.11 beta.  As noted in my earlier post, my last upgrade was with 1.9.2.10 and perhaps that is the issue?

You are right, the latest stable version for Joomla 2.5 is 1.9.1.5  The latest stable version for Joomla 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 is 1.9.2.10 beta.  I am not sure this has been tested on Joomla 3.3.

The whole area of user groups has been changed from the 1.9 series to the 2.5/3.2 series to use the Joomla ACLs and View Access levels.  The jDownloads j2.5 and j3.2 series have same database and data structures.  And there are many other enhancements.

For Joomla 2.5.x upgrading from jD 1.9.1.5  to jD 2.5.11 beta works fine.
For Joomla 3.3   upgrading from jD 1.9.2.10 to jD 3.2.9 beta works fine.
NB an update to 2.5.12 beta and 3.2.10 beta is due soon (when Arno gets back from hols)

What I am not 100% certain about is the upgrade path from 1.9.1.5 to the 3.2 series.  That is being investigated.  There should be an easy way!  This might mean turning of the monitoring function temporarily in the configuration as that could cause a conflict whilst files are being transferred.

Will continue to look into this.

Colin,

I just tried this on Joomla 2.5.24

1.  Upgrade 1.9 to 1.9.1.5 stable.  then I:
2.  Upgraded 1.9 to 2.5 per instructions on jdownloads web site.  This included uninstalling 1.9 and installing 2.5.11 beta.

At this point the problem I outlined above in my original post was observed on Joomla 2.5.24 i.e.. the 404 errors on selecting some file names.

So, the upgrade from jdownloads 1.9 to 2.5 appears to be the problem.

Another item that is a problem is that the Category descriptions did not migrate.

Did another test with Joomla 3.3 and Jdownloads 1.9.2.10 beta. Everything seems to be OK, links work and category descriptions correct.
