News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Unable to change alias manually

Hello,

I have a weird problem with the "alias" field (latest jD installed, but this problem - for me - is at least 5-6 months old).

My category titles are cyrilic, but the problem occurs nevertheless - regardless of the configuration settings (tried absolutely all of the jD configuration combinations, plus the "unicode aliases" in the Global Configuration, to no success), jD always seems to convert the category title to lowercase and/or transliterate. For example, say I have a subcategory titled "News 2012". I would like the alias to be, for example, "my-news-2012-lalala", so I type it manually, but as soon as I save, the alias is changed to "news-2012".

I also have a j2.5 website with an older version of jD and this works as it should.

Hi
Seems I cannot reproduce the problem, the aliases are editable!!
Please see the attached pics which should be self explanatory. These include my jDownloads Config details. Note that to demo further I switched on the Unicode support in Joomla! System Config, but not in jDownloads.  I used a Russian keyboard on my PC screen to get Cyrillic chars.

The link code generated is using the cyrillic chars as manually extended.

Maybe I have missed something

My sincere apologies for this one; after I saw your reply, I immediately installed jDownloads on a fresh Joomla 3.4.1 and I could see that everything was working as it should.
Then I started crawling through the extensions on my dev website, and there it was - a "System - Transliteration" 3rd party plugin. It is used to automatically change cyrilic to latin characters, but it also overrides any attempt at creating a custom alias anywhere. A colleague of mine installed it to speed up content creation process and forgot to mention it.

I really feel terrible, it was a simple overlook, noob style. I really hope this didn't take too much of your time :(

Hi
Glad it was not our problem! And many thanks for 'owning up'!!  In an English sense I am often considered a 'consultant' - the definition of which is 'someone who has made more mistakes than others' but with the important corollary that 'one remembers the mistakes'.  So now you are a consultant on transliteration in jDownloads!!
