News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hello!

I was searching for a download area available only for the logged user and i think Private Area is fine for me, because I've different files for each user. Also permit to single user to upload files in that area will be great!

But I've seen, going on the table header in configurations, that Private Area is still in development.

Searching through this forum I've read that this development is in progress since march 2014.

When do you think this feature will be fully available?

Hi
Not sure when Arno will do this.  You are the first person in some 18 months to enquire.
How many users do you expect to support.  If it is say around 100 or less then it would be feasible giving them their own User Group and category.  if that would be sufficient then I could give you asdvice on what to do so that each user only sees their own downloads and so on.

This is my goal: when a user is logged he can see only file that are dedicated for him. A user can upload file in his area and admin can upload data...

Sometimes the needs is to upload files via FTP to the user folder and these files have to be only available to the "selected" user.

I've tried to work with user groups but found nothing interesting (maybe I've searched in the wrong place).

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi
I assume that a user will have more than one file so we allocate each user their own category.
Let these be call CatA for UserA and so on.

Ensure all permissions using the Options button on the jD control panel are set to Inherit for Downloads for any existing User Group (UG) except super admin

Create user group UGA with Registered as its parent.
Create UserA as a member of UGA.  Note because of the implicit rules in Joomla AserA will also be a member of UGs Registered and Public whether or not you explicitly 'tick' when allocating UserA to tu UGA.
Next we create a view access level called AclA with UGA as its only member.
You will need a jDownloads Upload front end menu item.  Set access to it to Registered because all permitted users will be members of the Registered UG

We have now set up the main Joomla! side

Go to User Groups Settings in jDownloads and select UGA Ensure it has a ranking of say 101 (later set UGB to 102 and so on just to minimise time used in resolving if equal rankings)
Still in User Groups Settings go to the Group Creation/Editing Settings and select field "Default access view level" and set it to AclA
Also select which questions you want UGA members to be asked in the front end upload

Hopefully it should now work.  Note that UserA will only see CatA as that is the only category to which that user has view access.
