I am using the External File Link for a Google Drive download link, which means I had to set the  Is the main file on an external web page? to Yes. This works fine. The problem is when the download link is clicked it opens another window in order to download the file. But the new blank window never closes. Is there a setting or a hack that can make this window close after the download is complete.

Hi
I am not sure this is the answer but jD opens another window if the file type is listed in the "Which file types are to be opened in the Browser?" in Downloads tab of Configuration.  So I suggest you look at that setting.

Thanks for the replay but I checked and that is not the problem. All I have there is HTML. Google Drive gives you a link that you can use to download a file. When you use that link it opens a blank window, downloads the file, and then the window automatically closes (not matter the file extension, even with zip files).

When you put the link into JDownloads and the Is the main file on an external web page? set to No (it's default) then JDownloads downloads a 0KB file.

When you set it to Yes then JDownloads opens a blank window and downloads the file correctly, but the window does not automatically close.

OK
Is the blank window used as part of the download?  It maybe it is Google Drive that is opening the window in both cases.  It obviously is in one case.

QuoteWhen you put the link into JDownloads and the Is the main file on an external web page? set to No (it's default) then JDownloads downloads a 0KB file.
Does jD open a window in that case?

Will have to research/delve a bit more to check out - means me setting up a Google Drive!

Hi
I have set up a Google drive and uploaded several files to it. One of these was an obj file which has no application on my site.
All of the downloads opened an extra tab with various different download instructions.  Basically all these extra windows were controlled by google drive.  Please see pics below.  After I had downloaded then the window remained but that was not due to jDownloads.  I also tried in several different browsers.

As far as I am aware jD does not get a 'signal' that a new page has been created or that a download has or has not occurred.

Basically from my tests I do not think this is under the control of jDownloads.

Wow, thank you for going through all that effort and quick replies. I knew that it was Google making the blank window open. What I did not understand is why when you use the Google link all by itself the blank window automatically closes after download but when you use the Google link through JDwonloads the blank window does not automatically close?

I know that it is not JDwonloads opening the blank window but is there something about Jdownloads that is preventing the blank window from closing? Can something be added to JDownloads to force the closing of the blank window?

Hi
The problem is that jD does not know the window exists.  It does not even know that it is a google drive; maybe it was from Drop Box or Flickr or ....
So I regret it would be nice but not feasible.  And perhaps Google might change ('improve') what they do!  In my case the window created by google-drive when using it directly never cloes after I have downloaded.  Maybe its a Browser setup thing?
