News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hi,  I am trying to create 2 downloads with different descriptions to the same file, this appears to work, but I get 'This Download uses a fixed time frame for publishing' on the second file, and the second download file is not visible even though it shows as published. i do not have the publish timeframe active.  Any suggestions how to accomplish this? or is this a bug. Thanks in advance.

Hi
What you are trying to do is quite normal.  After creating a Download in the usual way then in the backend you can in the second field in the files section use the Select to choose from another Download.  Both Downloads will then use the same file.  Each Download is independent so they may have different descriptions such as illustrated.  Could you please try again as I am unable to reproduce your scenario.

Hi Colin

I have managed to do that, and the files do appear in a catagory list if i click the link with jdownloads. However I cannot assign a menu item to the second copy, the copy does not appear in the list, i click jdownloads, single download, choose my catagory and the list that shows contains only the orginals, not the 'duplicates' that has different descriptions.

An additional question, maybe should be another topic, how can I change the color of the link name when displaying a category; at the moment it is dark blue, and with a dark theme it is hard to read; is this easy to change to be say a whiteish colour (#EAEAEA).

Hi
I can confirm that it does not appear so I will rename this topic and list in bugs.
Downloads may share a file by using the Alternate "Select a file from other Download". This allows separate Description and other attributes to be different.
The images below show that the 'alternate' Download does not appear when creating a single download menu item or when using the Download Button plugin.

Colin
PS I think the list in menu item is created in administrator\components\com_jdownloads\views\downloads\tmpl\modallist.php
