News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

hello. i use external direct link in jdownload

.im set the download premisions for registerd users .and public user have no access to download link. when registerd users  click on download link - the new blank page open and they can download external link.
but if user logout or public users click on that blank page have this error :  The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies

.  please see the attached file. i think the users must see any text or message about login for download or about you have no primession to download ..how we can fix this error?

Hi
I do not think this is a jD problem!  Like you I use Firefox as my main browser.
First I would like to make sure I understand so I have wriiten below what I believe you are saying
Quote.im set the download premisions for registerd users .and public user have no access to download link. when registerd users  click on download link - the new blank page open and they can download external link.
but if user logout or public users click on that blank page have this error :  The page isn't redirecting properly

  • You have a visible link to a Download where the file to be downloaded is on a remote server
  • the link is visible to all users including the Public (not logged in people)
  • the permissions are such that only Registered users can download
  • if a non-logged in person clicks on the link then you get the message you indicated.
Please conirm if I have understood properly in the above

Because it is an external file jD does not control the file downloading.  Also there is a conflict beween seein a link and being able to use the link.
Could you advise if the link is in an aricle (by using the jD Content Plugin)  or if it comes from a jD menu item in a listing. If it is in a jD menu listing please let me know what type of menu item.
The general principle is that if you cannot download then either the lonk is hidden or it is not shown as a link but as text.
The way of 'concealing' the link depends on which way the link is being shown so please let me know
Colin

Hi
A couple of observations.
First nothing to do with problem but please avoid using Deny in the permissions as it has many unexpected effect.

When you logout jD has no knowledge that you have logged out.  The Login Form module has redirects for login and logout. So you should set that to redirect to say an article or to reload another page. It could redirect to the same page but this time it will refresh the page and say only registered or logged in users can download.

This is not a jD 'bug' but the way Joomla! is intended to work: that is on logout to redirect to somewhere the user will get a valid page.  Joomla! does not communicate with everey component or module or plugin to addvise that the user has logged out, or logged in.  The state is only checked when the page is recreated, which is different from a browser refreshing from its cache.

PS having the video was very, very helpful for me to understand what was the problem - thankyou.

Hi
If you do the redirect after the logout to say your home page there will not be an error. If you did redirect to the same page then you will see the 'only registered users can download'
